Christmas Presents
22/1/2017
As previously mentioned I’m guessing the blog will be in and out, forwards and backwards until I reach a normal day to day occurrence. One of the main focuses of course apart from the farm is my beautiful family
who I will slowly but surely introduce one by one at a later stage.
There wasn’t much work carried out on the farm this weekend only the annual pick up horse poo late yesterday afternoon. One thing I have come to realise is just how
important those little gold nuggets are when you’re trying to establish a new garden especially the old veggie garden.
I constructed several raised garden beds some Months ago, by cutting up an old water tank and using the old sleepers
for the vegetable garden. My last count was just on 10 sqm of soil being delivered to help me fill in all the raised beds. Still being an avid novice gardener I rushed in way to quickly of course – fill in garden with soil, then plant, then repeat.
I gave no future thought or consideration that the soil from the landscape yard was nowhere near ready to produce a lovely ornament garden nor a wonderful bounty of fresh vegetables. Thus, that is where these little gold nuggets come into play by helping
us enrich the soil with the nutrients needed. So, each weekend I am trying to put aside some time to pick up the end result of 3 horses living off the land, man one horse can shite a lot….No doubt I will go into the garden some time in the future, already
the poo along with some rain is taking effect though.
I have five kids in my life three sons and a step son and daughter, who as time goes by are basically becoming my own and I find myself dropping the step part when introducing my family
more often now than not. Part of raising a “Step Family” is of course blending everyone’s personality and ways into one. And I can tell you it’s not easy, one coming in as a step parent or I’m guessing at times a child. We put
a lot of effort into trying to roll our family all into one and it is an ongoing effort on everyone’s behalf but it does now seem it is becoming easier and easier as time goes by. Audrey my life partner out did herself this year in the Christmas present
department, absolutely nailed it.
She purchased all the kids (except the youngest Boris a plus 18 event) a ticket to Rufus which we all attended on Saturday night at the big Pineapple on the Sunshine Coast. I must say I was a little apprehensive
prior to going and whilst I wasn’t looking for excuses to not go I wasn’t far away from it. A younger generation band, the weather (it rained prior and most of the concert) the concern of picking the right outfit in order not to embarrass myself
or the kids and of course just trying to fit in which I’m sure a problem that every middle-aged man with kids has.
The kids were quick to settle into our Motel rooms which of course coincided with the pre-drink rituals just after and
as the afternoon rolled by things became easier and easier. The whole night ended up being an exceptional one, a book mark moment for all. Rufus were totally unbelievable and put on a show that one will remember in time to come. Everything about it was just
simply great, the light show, the music everything just seemed to coincide with each other that just “blended” even at times in a down pour of rain. Rufus reminded me at times of a band that I grew up with, New Order but obviously with a younger
sound. At times the same haunting vocals coupled with a very easy listening beat and sound of electronica, which totally seems to be evolving with the computer generation. To know that Rufus is an Aussie band from Sydney gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling especially
afterwards when I was left in awe of just how good their show was – the Lastlings one of their support acts were pretty good also and deserve a mention. I can only hope that this week Rufus will be rewarded with at least 2-3 entries in the Triple J top
100 on Australia day and hopefully at least one in the top 10 (yes I am an avid voter of)
I highlighted the word “blended” in the previous paragraph and like music, step families need all the right ingredients, sound, light and
harmony to become blended. And as I was falling asleep on Saturday night in bed I was surrounded by all the older kids, all laughing and talking the normal jibberish language as you do after a concert. And it was at that very moment that I had a proud feeling
on just how far we have all come. There was a genuine love and feeling in the room with everyone playing their part in the family and what’s more knowing how important it is to play their role within the family. Sure, there are no rules, regulations
or an instruction booklet to create a tight bonded family but I’m guessing it is all just a process in life that we all go through. But I have to say take a bow Audrey (and Rufus) what a wonderful idea, what a wonderful night, what a wonderful family…..xxx
PS - 2 Years to go Boris, I'm sure me and Mum will have one or two left in us

20/1/2017 As I laid in bed last night my closing thoughts were met with excitement but a certain confusion about the new blog. Where does all this start – at the beginning? Is it only going to be all about the farm? Is it about life and the day to day happenings? My thoughts? Pictures?..so many questions but there really is only one answer!
So “You” I have decided it will be about everything and every think but given that the farm is now a major part of my life the majority will be based about it. However I will delve into the time capsule along the way, mention my day to day thoughts and happenings but most of all I will share my life.
The good, the bad, the ugly the whole package of my universe. I will though embark with logic in trying to keep it all in some readable order…
