Faith no More

Another band I discovered mid-teens and I loved everything about them. The more they evolved the more I liked them it all seems to gently coincide with maturity, life does that. Whilst I loved Mosely it was Patton who I really admired and though when he first started with FNM he’s vocal sound was very similar to Mosely’s I loved the way he grew taking the band to a new level in my opinion. Throw in Puffy on the drums and Gould on the bass the original founders of the band with some at times controversial lyrics I admired the way they seem to change their sound over the years whilst keeping the faithful fans as myself. I struggled to pick an album, so I went with the one with my favourite song on it, funnily enough also another album that the band thought was their worse.

True Colours

Spit Enz

Either Crowded House or Split Ends, take your pick. Certainly, they evolved into something special, but I have to say I liked the punkier edge of Split Ends another great band that crossed the ditch into Australia. Neil Finn perhaps one of the best song writers of my time and someone I grew to love and appreciate more the older I got. I remember the first time I went to see Pearl Jam (from memory the 10 tour) and Eddie belted out “I Got You” which at the time provoked my thinking into just how much on a global scale these boys were recognised let alone influential.  Whilst not taking anything away from Tim Finn I don’t think they would of went the miles without Neil joining them when he did but without doubt this album was a great collaboration between all members. I find myself playing their best of quite often, it never gets old.

Triple J Top 100 2018

I have been so time poor since returning from the Christmas break I never had time to write much about the Top 100 this year I will say this though each year I find myself becoming more and more separated from it as I thought this years Top 100 and especially the Top 10 were the weakest it has been for some time. Still as always I enjoyed the day and it was great to share the day with a few at the Farm.

My Favourite release of the year

Sometimes the universe gives earth something special and this man is one of those things. Definitely by far my favourite release of 2018.

Florence and the Machine

This year’s family traditional Xmas present seen us all at the Florence and the Machine concert and man she never disappointed. But before I get to carried away and tell you just how good it was I want to mention a guy plucked from obscurity from NZ called “Marlon William” (Bille Eilish was meant to be the support act but disappointingly pulled out) If Gotye and Jeff Buckley were to have a baby it would have been this gentlemen, definitely worth checking him out. Well first since seeing Live mid-week at the Riverstage venue I was very apprehensive on going (was always going to go lol) what I am trying to say here is given all the noise restrictions now on this venue especially mid-week it can potentially wreck the performance as I though it effected Live’s concert. There is just something about the softly spoken Florence Welch it is almost like she morphs into another character whilst on stage and she certainly leaves you mesmerised but without taking anything away from the back up singers or the band it is her you always find yourself searching for on stage. I have seen some great acts in my time and this one would be right up there and you know you’ve been to a good concert when the band gets away with playing a lot from the new album which hasn’t received much airplay or support for that matter here in Australia.
