Cruel Intentions

Soundtrack

Allowing myself only one Movie Soundtrack was a hard task, in fact I changed it at the last minute from the movie “Singles” (enter of the Grunge era – some great music and another great movie) There have been some great movies over the years that have been matched by an even better Soundtrack and in reality, maybe it was the music laid over certain scenes that actually made the movie that little better. From Pulp Fiction, Breakfast Club, St Elmos Fire to Pretty Woman and a lot in between not to mention more musical based movies such as the Blues Brothers it truly was overall a hard choice but enter the winner. Not only was the movie one of my all-time favourite cult movies (my cult anyways) it was held up by some absolute masterpieces by the more obscure alternative artists. In fact, I think I had the Soundtrack in my possession within a week from seeing the movie, perhaps it made me like the movie even more. That statement alone tells me just how important a soundtrack can be in the overall encounter of a movie, definitely worth a listen.

Pieces of You

Jewel

As much as I love Jewell it took until I heard her singing Foolish Games almost Acapella but for a haunting acoustic guitar in the background to really fall in love with her. The storey behind her makes her even more enchanting to me, a truly great female artist all round. Lyric content aside this album produced a cocktail of harmonies and melodies and if an angel really could sing it would be her voice in my imagination that I would be hearing. In this album, she summoned all of her life’s experiences and told her storey and if that doesn’t grab you her voice truly will. I am a little bewildered she is still not recording but knowing her storey probably provides me with the answers as to why. A great album, an album I still listen to every now and then.

Double Fantasy

John Lennon

This gentleman is one of my all-time music heroes not for the sense of the type of person or who he was but only for his music alone, though I did appreciate one or two issues he stood for outside of his music – Religion being one of them. When you look back over the Beatle and Solo catalogue of Lennon what he has written and sang, I’m left feeling lamented but in awe by the statements he has made with his music over the years. With characteristic vocals, subversiveness and intelligence he was always like McCartney going to make it as a Solo artist in the life after the Beatles. Lennon was a genius stroke of our evolutional life’s and his legacy will always live on. Truly a sad day in all realms the day he died not to mention how he died. I have a lot of respect for his music and I absolutely loved this album and the complexity of it. From the poppy tunes to the laid-back ballads a true masterpiece.

Good Morning Revival

Good Charlotte

Another band I found refreshing at the beginning to the mid 2000’s with their semi punk pop sound. Though this album was one of their less successful commercially I think they kind of found and completed their sound after this one. Some bands get it straight up others take a few records to find their Mojo and I think this was the one for them. Interestingly the Madden brothers (twins) are actually the Combs brothers and I wonder if P.Diddy had anything to do with the name change. Every album produces at least one sometimes three monolithic songs that you could listen to over and over and for me this album had several. The boys might not hold powerful voices but I think they make up for that lyrically and with their tight sound and great use of the electric guitars, it’s almost a stand-alone sound some of it. I got drawn into Good Charlotte their honest, have a great sound and to me, real and this album to me confirms that.

I'm back.....

Life has been a little crazy these past couple of weeks (when isn't it) but as previously mention this is an exercise I don't want to rush. Happy to say though I'm back up and running......
